My ‘works’, are not in abundance. They are few and far between.
Ideas are easy, action is hard; completion is even harder. In your head, it can seem very achievable, but just before you start, just after the idea comes to you, the weight of action is put on your shoulders. Everything I think of becomes unachieved. Every draft I make, every note I take, is unseen to you; the reader.
To combat this, I embrace ‘abundance’. This, the thing you’re reading right now, is my abundance. I aim to write and create so much—or publish so many half-ideas, and notes, and tidbits—that creativity has no option but to flow. This avoids fear, and writer’s block—a farce that doesn’t exist—keeping my muscles moving, reminding myself that creativity is right here; near, and at hand.
I’ve seen this in Brian Eno and Kendrick. They create every day, out of practice, not out of necessity.
My hope, is that this abundant practice will flow to other creative endeavours that require writing—YouTube, socials, newsletters, podcasts—scripts for everything! If I can write something right now, then turning that into a video or something more than writing isn’t that far away.
If I can publish something today, I can publish anything, any-day.
